The long-awaited 2021 single barrel selection (2nd from The Prime Barrel crew) is here. We were presented with four barrels to choose from. Out of the four, two were standouts – to the point where we wanted to take both, but got shut down by powers that be. So we mulled long and hard which barrel out of the two we like we want to go with. Ultimately we decided on barrel # 17-1430. To us, besides tasting fantastic, it had the “it” factor we look for in our picks. More specifically, it was the most unique barrel out of the four, from both taste and complexity vantage points. The barrel was bottled at 105.9 proof and really is best enjoyed neat, but your mileage may vary. it has floral aromas accompanied with raspberry and confectionary sugar lead to the taste of orange sherbet, oak, and red fruit gummy. For the sticker, we wanted to pay homage to the hometown of New Riff Distilling, which is Newport, KY. Newport was dubbed by some “Almost Vegas” for being home to Racing and Gaming casino, providing good folks of Kentucky and neighboring states a place to come to a casino without having to travel to Vegas. Of course, nothing IS quite Vegas itself, hence the title of the pick – “Almost Vegas.” The sticker also reflects the bottle’s tasting notes and has an interactive component to it as well. Scan the QR code to find out where it takes you! Lastly, the charity this barrel selection will be supporting (as suggested by folks on our IG account) is The Asperger/Autism Network:
- What They Do: The Asperger/Autism Network aims to assist individuals on the Autism Spectrum (plus their family members, partners, and professionals) throughout their lifetimes. The network provides a mix of in-person and virtual services such as a referral program, support network, and conferences. The Asperger/Autism Network is largely run by those on the Autism Spectrum.
- How Donations Help: Any donations received go to helping the network provide information, education, support, and advocacy to adults, families, friends, and professionals.
- Donation Amount: $5 from each bottle sold
