Buffalo Trace Distillery, located in Frankfort, Kentucky is the oldest running distillery in the United States. Records show distillation from this site since before the declaration of Independence 1776.
The whiskey itself is named after the title given to the ancient Buffalo paths that crossed these lands leading explorers and settlers westward. It is no coincidence that the early settlers stopped here near the banks of the Kentucky river in a spot that is rich in limestone and river bottom loam, ideal qualities for making the grains that would be used for spirits.
With their careful blending of organically grown corn, rye and superior malted barley, natural limestone filter water is added for the mash to be stored in center ring barrels of 70 to 80 year of age.
The result is an exceptionally expressive whiskey that has a wonderful mouthfeel, drinking smoother than most bourbons in this price range. Hence, Buffalo Trace has won awards every year since its inception in 1999. Wine Enthusiast rating: 93
